My story "Twice Burned" is one of twenty short stories included in the anthology, and follows Danica Burns on a brand new case, investigating a rune-covered body found in Washington State's Lake Crescent.

This is custom artwork, done by yours truly—and there's a bit of a backstory behind it that you'll want to know for future Danica Burns stories.

If you've read Smoke Screen (which you all should have a copy of—hit reply and let me know if you don't), then you've met Special Agent Danica Burns working a solo case in Colorado.

In this new story, "Twice Burned," you'll meet her Seattle-based partner Special Agent Ethan Martinez. "Twice Burned" is set a bit farther along in their partnership, once they've worked a few cases together. But the first Danica Burns book, Ashes to Ashes (coming in November) is where they meet.

Ethan has a bit of an artistic streak, and likes to keep his notes in the battered sketchbook he carries with him on every case.

This, my friends, is a spread from the case you'll encounter in "Twice Burned."
